    Students will learn the steps and processes of drawing to increase their abilities. They will learn different ways to hold a pencil, the different types of pencils such as types B and H. They will also learn how to draw in different mediums like charcoal, chalk, and pen and ink. Students will learn about lighting, shading and perspective as well as the different styles of art. 2 sessions to choose from. All materials included.

    Artists of all skill levels are invited to this special engagement to sketch and reflect amidst Contemporary Craft's triennial show, Transformation 12: Contemporary Works in Wood, which explores the expressive and technical possibilities of wood. With remarks on the show by Contemporary Craft's Director of Visual Engagement, Yu-San Cheng, and drawing instruction by Kim Freithaler, this collaborative workshop will tap into your creative potential. Students will bring their own sketchbook/pad, pencils/graphite, etc and an easel if desired. Tables and chairs will be provided.

They will be taught to look at values, forms of objects, and measurements in still life objects. At the end of this four week class, students will have a better understanding on how to draw from observation and how to compose their own drawings. Materials list.

    Treat yourself to some downtime creating winter wonderlands. We will be working on snowy landscape scenes, featuring barns and farms. The class will include basic drawing and composition skills as well as pastel blending to create wintery moods.     Explore the many things that can be done with colored pencils while you complete a botanically correct “portrait” of your favorite winter fruit or vegetable. A variety of colored pencil techniques will be used in this workshop. Materials List.

    Soft pastels are a vibrant and rewarding painting medium! This class will cover using pastels with a variety of different techniques and with a variety of surfac-es. All levels are welcome as we explore the pastel sticks and pan pastels. All materials included.

    In this five-week class, homeschool students will explore famous artworks and re-create them with a modern twist. Each week, we’ll study a different masterpiece, learn about the artist, and then put our own spin on the style using creative techniques and materials. What a fun way to connect art history with hands on learning while building confidence and imagination. All materials included.     If you love winter, this is a perfect time of year to observe nature and all of her creatures. We will be working on furry and fluffy animals with a backdrop of snowy landscapes.
